Training description

As a Machining Mechanic, you produce tailor-made workpieces for machines and systems using machining technology, i.e. you turn, mill, drill or grind components on machine tools, for example. When manufacturing workpieces, you have to deal intensively with the individual part drawing and select suitable materials, machines and test equipment. You create the CNC programs or adapt existing ones. After setting up the machine, you monitor the manufacturing process: You check, review and document the product quality. The maintenance and care of machines and tools is also part of your tasks.

At the beginning of your training, you will first get to know the theoretical side of the profession, both in the company and in the vocational school. This includes, above all, the properties of the individual materials, but also technical drawing and the operation of the machines during operation. Once you have understood the basics, you can start making your first test pieces. Since you have to work very precisely and extremely carefully as a machining mechanic, you will spend a lot of time as an apprentice during your training with the production of various test pieces.

In the third year of training, you will then be in manufacturing for a few months and get to know real, everyday working life.

Machining mechanics are basically trained in four different areas of application: Automatic lathe systems, lathe systems, milling machine systems and grinding machine systems. At GSR, you can choose between lathe systems and milling machine systems.

Duration of training: 3 1/2 Years
School requirements: You will need a “Hauptschulabschluss” or “mittlere Reife” qualification
Interests and strengths: You have technical skills, a good mathematical understanding and can work carefully.
Vocational school: You will attend vocational school once or twice a week. Before the final exam, we will prepare you for the exam in the training workshop.
Further education opportunitiesAfter completing your training, you will have the opportunity to further training as a master craftsman or technician in the field of mechanical engineering.
